Spider Information - Idaho Black Widows and Hobo Spiders

Spiders Control Idaho Black Widow Spiders
The two most infamous spiders in Idaho are the Hobo and Black Widow spiders. Black Widow spiders are easily identified by their black shiny bodies and the red "hour glass" on their underside. However, male and adolescent black widows can vary in color from shades of red, to white, to orange. The "hour glass" can also appear in different shades of yellow or orange-red. Black Widow spider bites are especially dangerous to small children and pets.

Hobo Spiders in Idaho
Hobo spiders are brown and usually measure 12 to 18 mm in size. Their legs have short hairs and no distinct "stripes". Hobo spiders got their name because of their ability to travel and adapt to new environments. They are usually found in closets, storage rooms and garages. Hobo spider bites are necrotic and can cause a pustulating sore that can lead to amputation if the bite does not receive medical treatment.
